Marathon Monday: Finding Your Footing

EUGENE, Ore. — Signing up for a marathon or a half marathon is a big feat. Once you take the first step, and sign up, the training begins.

There are many items out there to help runners train for great distances, but all you really need is a little heart and “sole”.

“I found stretching and foam rolling really helps and finding the right shoes,” said Kat Metz, UO Women’s Soccer Head Coach.

“The shoes are really important for any runner, especially for someone who is ambitious enough to take on the Eugene Marathon or Half Marathon,” said Bob Coll, Eugene Running Company Co-owner.

When buying a pair of running shoes, it’s easy to hit a wall.

“You don’t need the most expensive pair but you need the pair that is appropriate for you biomechanics,” Coll said.

It’s about choosing the right course to fit your stride. The shoes you buy may save your feet in the end.
